Postage and delivery

Everything leaves our shed in Galashiels by a tracked parcel service, apart from the colour card, which travels by letter post. Here is what it costs, how long it takes and what happens if something goes astray.

What postage costs

Postage is charged once per order, not per item, so a throw and two scarves going to one address cost the same to post as the throw alone.

DestinationPer orderArrives after dispatch
UK mainland£5.501 to 2 working days
Scottish Highlands and islands, Northern Ireland, Isle of Man, Channel Islands£8.502 to 4 working days
Ireland and the rest of Europe£144 to 8 working days
USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and elsewhere£246 to 12 working days
Yarn colour card on its own, UK£1.202 to 3 working days
Yarn colour card on its own, outside the UK£2.805 to 10 working days

A colour card added to any other order travels in the parcel at no extra postage. The order sheet adds the right postage to your running total as soon as you choose a destination, and our reply e-mail confirms the figure before you pay.

Dispatch times

Pieces on the shelf are packed and posted within three working days of payment; parcels leave the shed on Tuesdays and Thursdays. If the colourway you want is between weavings, our reply gives the date the next length comes off the loom and finishing adds a few working days more. We do not take payment for a piece until we can tell you when it will go out.

Packaging

Each throw and blanket is folded into a drawstring cotton storage bag, which is yours to keep for storing it out of season, then wrapped in paper and boxed in card. Scarves are folded in tissue inside a flat card mailer. We use no plastic packaging, and all of the outer wrapping can go in household paper recycling.

Tracking

Every parcel is tracked. On the day it leaves the shed we e-mail you the tracking reference. The colour card goes by ordinary letter post without tracking, which is why its postage costs so little.

Customs outside the UK

For parcels leaving the UK we complete the customs declaration with a plain description, the value you paid and the country of manufacture. Import duty or tax due in your country is set and collected by your own customs office when the parcel arrives, and is payable by you. We cannot pay it in advance or mark a parcel as a gift.

Parcels that go missing or arrive battered

Should the tracking sit still for ten working days inside the UK, or twenty abroad, let us know and we lodge a claim with the parcel company ourselves. We do not make you wait for the claim to finish: we send a replacement from stock or refund you in full, whichever you prefer, as soon as the carrier confirms the parcel is missing. If a parcel arrives with the box torn or wet, please photograph it before opening and e-mail the pictures; we will put it right in the same way.

An address that does not work

Read the address over twice before sending the sheet. A parcel returned to Galashiels as undeliverable, for want of a house number or a postcode, goes out again as soon as you give us the corrected details, with the postage charged afresh.
